SOCIAL SKILLS GROUP THERAPY

All Social Skills Groups are Currently ON HOLD until further notice.

Group structure:

My social skills groups for school-aged children are semi-structured, individualized, activity-based, and focus on building relationships in a safe environment in which to practice newly learned skills.

Group sessions are mostly 50-minutes, unless otherwise determined. They are weekly and follow a school calendar year, with typical holidays. The schedule is determined at the start of each school year or group.

Initial evaluation:

All of the groups require an initial clinical evaluation, which will help me determine an appropriate recommendation. This evaluation includes phone and/or email contact with the parents, contact with supporting providers, and two face-to-face meetings–one for the child and one for parents.

Collaboration:

I believe that children and young folks always do better when all their caretakers and providers are working together to give care and support. When I begin working with your child, I am now joining the treatment team of folks who care for your child and this group can include only us or a multi-disciplinary group of colleagues. I request collateral meetings with parents at a minimum of two to three times a year. The frequency of parent meetings can increase, depending on need. Providers that I collaborate with can include, but are not limited to: educators, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, medical physicians, and other mental health professionals. I make school observations and provide consultation, as needed, but one school visit per school year is highly recommended.

Children served:

I see a variety of children in my social skills groups and practice. Typical children can be “odd” or “quirky”, bright, and very verbal. Some of the children that I see have a tendency to be overly assertive with their friendships, some are passive and lack self-confidence. Each child is evaluated to determine group fit and individual need. I also have a special interest in working with children with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, sensory integration deficiency, other neurological disorders, and emotional difficulties.

PLEASE CALL TO INQUIRE FURTHER REGARDING OTHER AGE GROUPS.
