FAQ's

Welcome to the FAQ page. Here you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about therapy, scheduling, fees, and what to expect when working with Debbie Vuong, LMFT. Whether you’re new to therapy or looking to continue your mental health journey, this page is here to provide clarity and help you feel more informed and confident in taking the next step.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. I provide a complimentary 20-minute phone call so we can decide whether working together feels like a good fit and whether it makes sense to move forward with the initial consultation process.

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

The best way to know is to try it out. I schedule 1–3 initial consultation sessions to see if our connection feels right. Therapy can feel vulnerable, so it’s essential that you (or your child) feel safe, heard, and respected in a warm, nonjudgmental space. If it doesn’t feel like a good “click,” I’m happy to provide referrals to help you find the right fit.

What can I expect in the first sessions?

In our first sessions, we’ll focus on getting comfortable and beginning to understand what brings you in. We might talk about the history of what has been going on, any interventions you have had in the past or currently have, and even set some preliminary goals if we decide to work together regularly. For children and teens, this can involve a mix of talking and interactive activities to help them feel at ease.

We’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t work. How is this different?

Not every approach fits every person. My work is relationship-based and focused on the “why” behind the “what” or the underlying feelings beneath the behavior. By exploring how your emotions drive your behavior and your connections with others, we can often find the breakthroughs that previous attempts may have missed. Just because it hasn’t worked before doesn’t mean it can’t work now.

How often will we meet?

Weekly sessions are typical. Depending on goals, some clients shift to more or less frequent meetings or add parent/caregiver meetings or collaborative meetings with other providers and supports. We will work together to determine a plan that feels right.

What is the length of treatment?

Therapy lasts as long as it is helpful for you. We’ll start by discussing your goals and check in regularly to see how things are progressing. We will work closely and communicate regularly to decide together when you feel ready and supported enough to end our work.

Do you offer Telehealth?
Yes. I’m licensed in California and can meet via secure video with clients anywhere in the state.
What Are Your Fees for Service?

My fees are consistent with private practice specialists in the Bay Area who have similar experience. If my current rate is not a fit for your budget, I am happy to provide you with referrals to help you find a provider who meets your needs.

Can I use my insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider. If you have a PPO plan, I can provide a monthly “superbill” for you to submit for potential reimbursement. I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm your out-of-network benefits, as every plan is different.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash, check, Zelle or credit card through IvyPay.
How do I get started?
